A: I would describe my voice as a bass-baritone, which means I have a range that spans from the deep, rich tones of a bass to the more full-bodied sound of a baritone. I have worked hard to develop my vocal technique over the years, focusing on breath control, resonance, and projection. I strive to bring emotion and passion to my performances, connecting with the audience through the power and beauty of my voice.
Q: You have performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls around the world. What have been some of the highlights of your career so far?
A: I have been fortunate to perform in many incredible venues, but one of the highlights of my career was performing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. It was a dream come true to step onto that stage and perform in front of such a discerning audience. I have also had the opportunity to sing with some of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, which has been a truly humbling experience.
Q: Who are some of your musical influences, and how have they shaped your own unique style?
A: I have been inspired by many great artists over the years, but one of my biggest influences has been the legendary bass-baritone, Cesare Siepi. His powerful voice and charismatic stage presence have always resonated with me, and I have tried to emulate his style in my own performances. I have also been influenced by the great Russian basses, such as Fyodor Chaliapin and Boris Christoff, who have set the standard for excellence in the bass-baritone repertoire.
Q: What advice would you give to young aspiring opera singers who are looking to pursue a career in music?
A: My advice to young opera singers is to work hard, be persistent, and never give up on your dreams. It takes a lot of dedication and discipline to succeed in this competitive industry, but if you have a passion for music and a love for singing, you can achieve great things. Surround yourself with supportive teachers, mentors, and colleagues who can help you along your journey, and always strive to improve and grow as an artist.
Q: How do you prepare for a performance, both mentally and physically?
A: I believe that preparation is key to a successful performance. I spend a lot of time studying the score, learning the music, and understanding the character I am portraying. I also focus on my physical health, making sure to stay in shape and maintain a healthy diet. Mental preparation is also crucial, as I need to be focused and in the right mindset when I step onto the stage. I always try to relax and clear my mind before a performance, so that I can give my best and connect with the music and the audience.
Q: What are your plans for the future? Are there any upcoming projects or performances that you are looking forward to?
A: I have several exciting projects in the works, including some new recordings and performances with leading opera companies and orchestras. I am always looking for new challenges and opportunities to push myself as an artist, and I am excited to see where my career will take me next. I am also passionate about teaching and mentoring young singers, so I hope to continue sharing my knowledge and expertise with the next generation of opera stars.
